About

Lisa RobertsAbout Me
Born and raised in Mesa, Arizona, I traveled a little after college and then settled in San Diego for just over 9 years. I loved it there and it was where my artist’s soul really blossomed. Recently, I moved to Scottsdale, Arizona and am learning new ways to love and be inspired by the desert. My art education consists of a few classes in college (I ultimately earned a BA in Women’s Studies from Arizona State University) and an Artist’s Way class which was life changing. I have been on a spiritual quest since I was 14 and an informal student of Buddhism for the last few years. I have four tattoos and will undoubtedly get more. In September 2007 I was diagnosed with breast cancer (more about that here). After surgery, an abundance of fantastic help and care, lots of emotional journeying and plenty of rest, I am healthier than ever before. And, although I have for some time now lived quite the above-board lifestyle, I definitely have a dark side and a mildly shady past. I am fascinated by the places where the unusual or paradoxical meet and exist in harmony. All of this contributes to my intuitive process and, of course, shows up in my artwork!

About My Art
Making art is really one of my favorite things to do. Ever. Pretty much the coolest! You get the drift. I love it, and I love it when my artwork can provide a connection point with folks. Sometimes it’s with close friends and sometimes people I don’t know very well. Either way, it is AWESOME. I recently created a commission piece for a woman I had literally met once, for about a minute. She bought one of my pieces and then later requested that I make a piece especially for her. It was one of the most fun, exciting and scary experiences I’ve had in recent times. If this sounds like something you might like, let me know and maybe we can take that exciting journey together.

My artwork is a loosely-themed series of mixed-media and found object sculptural wall pieces. Most recently, I’ve been exploring carving and burning in wood, and trees are a definite theme within that pattern. My pieces are sensual, heavily textured, intricate and personal. I use glass, stone, plasticĀ and/or metal beads along with liquid acrylic inks to create rich layers of color and texture. The combination of wood, glass and/or metal with the super-glossy finish makes my pieces feel very sensual and soothing to the touch.
