Can’t I just learn from online tutorials?
Yes. No doubt. I learn from online tutorials all the time. One quick Google search and I’ve got a multitude of options at my fingertips. Here are some of the reasons that doesn’t work very well in this instance:
- This is an in-depth topic. You’ll be able to find short online tutorials for a lot of the small steps along the way. But you won’t likely find a tutorial that takes you step-by-step through the whole process.
- Not everyone’s definition of “step-by-step” is the same. A lot of the tutorials I tried to use when I was first learning WordPress claimed to have step-by-step instructions for part of the process, but when I tried to go through the steps, there were steps missing, places where I got permanently stuck, something they assumed was a no-brainer, but my lovely brain didn’t actually know how to do! *wah*
- Do you want to spend your time compiling your own book? Copying/pasting various tutorials from online, testing them, supplementing the gaps, and formatting them into a legible and easy to use format. That’s what you’d have to do to gather the information on the many topics that are included in each of these guides.
Is this going to be another one of the bazillion ebooks that linger on my computer, taunting me because they are unused and lonely???
I very sincerely hope not. I myself suffer from ebook fatigue (let me count the PDFs)! That’s why I make every effort to be crystal clear about what you’re getting. I want you to KNOW that it is right for you.

I have over 10 years of experience in web design and graphic design. Of course, these days, technology changes at the speed of light and possibly even more valuable than years of experience is the ability to learn on the fly, adapt to changing technologies, and know when to say “I don’t know, I need to learn more.”
So, am I a WordPress expert? Yes, I have a deep, experiential and working knowledge of WordPress websites. I have come to love and appreciate the awesome benefits of building websites with WordPress. And, as soon as I started building WP websites for clients, they started asking for training. Some of them even requested written instructions so they could continue to practice and learn after we had finished their website project. Thus, were these DIY Guides birthed.

What is an hour of your time worth?
Not just monetarily. But an hour of your life when you’re being productive and enjoying yourself. How many hours get lost to that familiar time sucking wormhole that you slip into when you’re grasping at technology and it’s not at all clear to you? Stupid wormhole. You know how it goes. Not how you want it. Taking WAAAAY longer than you thought. Getting mad at yourself for not understanding as quickly as you think you should. Getting mad at yourself for getting mad at yourself for not getting it. *lame*
Instead of spending days on end in the wormhole, most likely cursing and swearing up a storm (or was that only me?!), why not be generous and kind to yourself and give yourself a helping hand? A tool to soften your journey.
I am absolutely positive that these guides will save you more time and money than you spend to invest in them. The point is, when you know what to do and how to do it, you save yourself not only the ruthless self-flagellation, but also a lot of precious time and money. Yeah, it’s a win-win.
