Coachella 2009 – Day 1

Today is the first day of the 3-day Coachella Valley Music Festival!!! I’ll be posting about it over the next few days so if it’s of interest to you, check back for updates. Right now, I’m watching the Silversun Pickups and really enjoying their kick-ass-ness!!! They are one of those bands whose music grew on me over time. One of the acts I SOOO wanted to see was M. Ward, but traffic was disastrous and we missed both him and the Black Keys. On the bright side, we checked out a DJ set by “Peanut Butter Wolf” just because of his name (how could we not?!?) and he was AWESOME! Hip-hop mash-ups of the most excquisite kind. My fave was a Notorious B.I.G. & Herb Alpert mix. I know. Crazy. I danced with joy and abandon.

We also saw some of Leonard Cohen’s set which was so lovely. I saw a documentary on him a while ago and he seems to be a great example of a wizened artist who has lived bravely and chosen to work within integrity and an inspiring creative flow.
